Question about "odd" behavior
A while ago I checked my profile and noticed that I had been "visited" by a user who was unfamiliar to me. I then noticed that the same user name showed up as I visited other profiles to thank them for Karma, etc.
So, I visited this user's profile. I see that this is a relatively new user, their profile is somewhat spammy, and they have not made a single post. I wonder if someone has registered here and then "mined" the user list, looking for useful information on legitimate users. Does this seem likely to any of the mods? (I haven't named the user, just in case my concerns are unfounded.) |

No moderator, but in my opinion it's not that sophisticated. I think it is simply spam/a way to lure you to their site.

I don't know if this is relevant - but I've accidentally visited user profiles several times. I'm aiming the mouse for the "Go to first new post" button in front of a forum thread, but have the mouse pointer just a little low, and click on the thread starter's user name instead and end up in their profile.

Good call. User has now been banned. Pure spam. I won't give the username, as that was also part of their spamming!

I believe someone made a thread a while back about being visited by Alexander Turcic's user, which was a little bit freaky. Accidental clicking could very well have been the reason... (although many other ideas are more fun to think about.)

I must admit that I'm not able to see the advantage of this ban, as he/she most probably never intended to post but only to spam via his/her profile. And that is still available. Or is "self-spamming" allowed at one's user profile?
