New E-Book Uploads forum needed ????

Given nthe fact that most of us seem to think .epub is a good idea, should we encourage this format by giving it its own upload forum.

I know that some people think its really only the latest world domination scheme from Adobe, and at the moment you can only use it on a PC but given that Sony and iRex are talking about introducing support for it down the road is this a chance for mobileread to take a leadership position and encourage the adoption of something that makes sense.

Comments please . . .

Does any device read EPUB yet? I know that itcan be read under FBReader, but since FBReader can also use Mobipocket so that's not enough of a reason to add it.

I believe that it's very important to support epub, and for anyone who'd like to store e-books for the upcoming years, it's the best solution.
Lack of current tools though, means you won't find many people creating epub files for the moment.

Try Feedbooks if you're interested in epub: http://www.feedbooks.com

One relevant question (and I have no feel for the answer) is how available are book creation apps that output .epub?

It's possible once the 505 supports it that more (some) tools will be written. But for now, do we have anything easy to use?

What tools create it?

What current reading devices use it?

Hedro - why don't you make a start on uploading the ePub books that you've created to the "Misc" book uploads forum? Once we have an appropriate number of them - and they're getting a decent number of downloads - we'll branch them off into a separate forum section.

Harry,

I havent created any books yet, but I will and I should be in a position to upload a number of books in epub format next month and we can take it from there.

I work in publishing so I have access to Adobe In Design CS3 which will export to epub format. I have been looking to see are there any open source projects around for doing it but so far have not found any.

Another feedbooks promoter! So how much are you being paid to promote feedbooks?

Sorry Hadrien, but you have to admit that NatCh impersonated you pretty well, I admire the way you promote feedbooks but even you have to admit that it gets a little funny when you insert feedbooks into nearly every format discussion going.

Considering that almost all of these discussions center around epub these days, promoting the only place where you can get a large number of epub files is normal ;-)
