Whats the difference between these two kindles?

Am I missing something??

One comes with special offers and screensaver promotions and the other is the same, but without promotions and costs $25 more, what the hell?

Im going to return my kindle 3g and get a wifi only, and this $114 looks attractive compared to the $140

They are the same except the $114 model is ad driven. In other words instead of the screen saver there are ads such as offers for Amazon deals displayed. The reading experience is exactly the same.

awww thats horrible... do you know if there's any way to change that with some mods/hacks?

I quite enjoy the author screensavers, but there's only so many and you cant add any =[

first the majority of comments from folks who have purchased the 'special offers' kindle are that the ads are mostly not bad or irritating and the banner at the bottom of the home page is also not bad or irritating.

so far there's been no jailbreak made available that will work on the firmware version used on the 'special offers' kindle. jailbreaking is needed before you can install any available screensaver hacks.

duokon, which is an alternate os and ui, does not require jailbreaking and eliminates the 'special offer' ads as well as the other things it provides.

The people who get the 'KSO' seem to like them (I've not read of anyone who did not), and the offers have been very attractive so far. I'd get one if I didn't already have a K3.

Try looking at the Kindle forum on Amazon. So many people complaining about "false advertisement" and "how the heck do you get rid of these annoying ads!" because they didn't bother reading anything besides the price and didn't realize it has ads on it lol.

The ads are no big deal.... I use my Kindle to read, not to stare
at the screen savers....... ;-)

The ads don't get in the way of reading, and some of them have been pretty darn good.
