I'd like that date remains sorted in descending order
Hello,
New question : For some convenience reasons, I always use the descending order when I sort on Date column. Imagine the following case : All my books are sorted by date (descending order), so all my recently imported books are on the top of the list. I want to verify if a tag of a book is coherent with the older books of the collection (serie), so I select the more recently imported book of this collection, and click on column "Serie". Once the sorting process achieved, I can check what I want. So I want to go back to the sorting order "by date", and each time, the sort order is set to ascendant. So I must click a second time on the Date column to return to my favourite sorting order. Is there a way for each column to memorize the sorting order (ascendent or descendent) , so that you can switch between between different column sorting, without having to change each time the sorting order. I'm a not sure if I 've been clear enough. |

Another way to check, without loosing the context, could be to highlight the new book and press Ctrl-S to show only the other books in the same series. Then it should be quick to verify that the tags are consistent. You could also press Ctrl-A to check the books by the same author.

You may be able to do what you want using Calibre's Quickview feature, and leave sorting as it is.
BR PS the View Manager plugin is good for saved sort sequences. Last edited by BetterRed; 08-24-2013 at 09:04 AM. Reason: add PS |

It functions well, but if sorted by date, all the books are scattered among the library, and I don't want to scroll among 17K ebooks, MAy be I did'nt understand something in your purpose. Oupssss ! Forget it, I've tried this with the highlight functionality on. It's faaaaaaaaaar better when the search appears in a separate window .... I'm confused It's a good way to do what I want. ------------------ But, if, in the future of Calibre 1.x, it could be possible for a sorting order to be memorized, I think I would'nt be the only one to appreciate (Kovid ??? . What I would like to have for Calbre's behaviour is : After having chosen a sorting order on a column (i.e: Date by descending order) , if you click on another column and after a while, you click again on the date column you are still in descending order. I'm not programmer, but I think that such on option may not be difficult to implement. |

Select a (tweak)title in the Left column, read the descriptions to get an idea of what the various tweaks offer. Instead of Click on a column header, RIGHT-click: sort on <column name>: Decending (this does not save clicks, but does save sort CPU time) |

Did you try using Quickview, I think it will do exactly what you want. Its a very powerful feature of Calibre that is often overlooked, probably because it doesn't have a pretty button to press. QuickView Documentation . BTW : I think there is an error in that doco Quote:

I've just tried it, but it's not what I want. OK, after the launch of Calibre, the books are sorted by date, in descending order. But if I sort on author, and back on date, I'm not in descending order like before, but in ascending order. I would like Calibre to memorize the sorting order of each column, until it's modified by user. |

You are correct to say that the book details pane is updated, but this should be true whenever a book is selected through any method. |

I've only ever wanted to control the spreadsheet from the QV list. I've never wanted or even thought of controlling the QV list from the spreadsheet (other than pressing 'q' on a cell). This reflects the purpose for which I currently use QV, which I suspect may be atypical. Your post has help me understand why I sometimes get 'frustrated' with QV. What I would like is a checkbox on the QV window to Lock the contents so that a) when I restore a minimized Locked QV window its contents are the same as they were when it was minimized, and b) to prevent me from inadvertently 'losing track of what I was doing' when I get distracted. It would be good if the QV Locked state was persistent across calibre executions. Why I want the Lock on the QV window itself and not in Preferences. Now that I understand the other 'usage mode' I think I can see how I could use it for a purpose that is discrete from my current usage. In that instance I obviously would not want to lock the QV contents. Except maybe if I minimized the QV window - need to think about that Quote:
It would be good for me if the book list tracked the QV list as I traverse it with the up/down arrow keys, rather that having to double click with mouse - see first attachment When I press Enter on a QV List item, it does a search on the QV list criteria - see second attachment. Is there some way I can prevent this, most apps treat Enter and double left mouse button click on list items as synonymous. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 08-25-2013 at 06:58 AM.
