Knife Children - Lois McMaster Bujold

There's a new Novella out from Lois McMaster Bujold:

Amazon UK
Amazon US

It's a stand-alone fantasy set in the world of her Sharing knife series. Blurb in spoiler tags in case you just want to buy it and read it immediately.

Spoiler:
"Lakewalker Barr Foxbrush returns from two years of patrolling the bitter wilds of Luthlia against the enigmatic, destructive entities called malices, only to find that the secret daughter he’d left behind in the hinterland of Oleana has disappeared from her home after a terrible accusation. The search for her will call on more of Barr’s mind and heart than just his mage powers, as he tries to balance his mistakes of the past and his most personal duties to the future. A stand-alone story set in the world of The Sharing Knife."

Since magazines have been on the down turn for a long while, a number of authors are experimenting with self publishing shorter length (I'm assuming that the publisher listed is her literary agency, I could be wrong) and more experimental works. It would be interesting to find out how well that works in terms of sales, and how they publicize the works so the buying public is aware of them. I know that Corriea does the same.

From what I see authors that already have a fan base for a running series but publishers have stopped picking up new books such authors have started to self publish short stories or novellas to gauge interest for whole length novels. So I try to buy these to encourage the authors.
