Unhappy Problems recognising iriver story

I was so excited to get my e-reader today but I can't seem to get it to connect to my computer. I downloaded a book from Waterstones, and downloaded the associated 'Adobe Digital Editions' but it's just not working!

I have registered on the Adobe website thing but it seems whenever I plug my iriver in nothing happens.

Can anyone help a damsel in distress?!

It says on a number of forums that it should recognise when I plug it in that there is a device, that it should open and ask how I wish to proceed. This is not happening!

I'm desperate folks - all help appreciated.

Thanks xxx

Hopefully you just overlooked (like I did the first time):

If you connect the device to your computer, you will see the screen
where you can select connection mode.
- Charge Battery: The product is currently being charged.
- Connect Removable Disk: The connection between the product
and the computer is established and you can start transferring data.

In case that excellent suggestion doesn't solve the problem -- is the computer Windows or a Mac?
