eBook devices in the profile
Where you can enter the eBook devices in your profile, I suggest adding that the model information also be added. We have had too many instances where the person puts in Sony or Kobo (for example) and when asking for help, knowing the model could be important.
See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...17#post2180917 for a very good example of the need to change the wording for the eBook device field to ask people to also put in the model. |

In theory a good suggestion. In practise new members are easily turned off when the registration process is too complicated or when they are required to often to enter specific information (beside username, email, password).
Out of the blue I can think of two possible ways how to improve here: 1. Offer a drop-down box with the majority of current e-book devices including the specific models. Problem with this is that there are a lot of devices out there including all the OEM's to take into consideration, and that we'd be dealing with a static list that would require regular maintenance. 2. Have a friendly reminder notice where members are kindly asked to update the e-book field in their user cp. |

Currently, it says:
E-Book Device Your (prospective) e-book device. If you haven't decided yet just enter none. It could be extended to something like: E-Book Device Your (prospective) e-book device. If you haven't decided yet just enter none. To make it easier to help you with (future) problems, please enter the full model information, not simply the brand. |

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier. Rather than "please enter the full model information, not simply the brand," I would have preferred "please enter the name and model." With the present wording, I can envision new members trying to fit the Serial Number, MSID, and pretty much anything else they can cram into the Device box.
