We knew this was coming but I am still sad. We lost a great author.

Haven't read any of his books but that interview on the bbc.co.uk website was refreshing and very moving. RIP Mr Banks.

Very sad news, 59 is way to young to die.

Was it you, Harry, who recounted a discussion-suffused train ride with Banks on these forums? Jeweled memory, that. |

Yes, it was indeed. A train journey with Iain and Bob Shaw from the NW of England to a Glasgow Eastercon where they were both guests. Great fun, and astonishing amounts of whisky consumed . Alas both Bob and Iain are now dead, but at least I have the memories to enjoy.

I hope you'll try to recall the conversations and circumstances and write down any memorable bits -- if not for society at large, then at least for yourself. I do that myself whether the person is celebrated or obscure, mostly because I feel it's my duty to honor them. (One could argue, of course, that Banks's body of work -- his corpus, as it were -- is testament enough.) Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 06-14-2013 at 12:08 PM. |
