It is amazing to me what Apple seeks to patent/copyright and trademark.
Yes others do it too, but Apple seems to exceed imagination.

I don't get this. If they already have "iPad" trademarked, why would they need to trademark "iPad Mini"? Unless it was to prevent other manufacturers from attaching the name "Mini" to their devices?

I hope they never get this patent. It's ridiculous. Other companies have devices out there with mini in the title, apple were not the first.

If you actually read the details, the patent office is basically refusing the initial application because it can be interpreted as trademarking the word mini but it also says it would reconsider if mini is definitively trademarked for Apple ONLY in association with iPad... as far as I know there are no other companies selling iPads so it isn't unreasonable to trademark iPad mini... just mini...
