Download and transfer via USB
I have always been able to purchase Kindle ebooks and then download and transfer via USB to Calibre.
Today when I tried this I got a message to "Download your Kindle content to your computer via Your Media Library". Where and how is the media library accessed? |

The interface tried to open up another browser window on my computer and I got the same message. Using a different browser allowed me to choose the download location similar to the previous UI. Probably allowing pop-ups on your current browser would work too.

This can be caused by enhanced security in recent web browser versions. You need to set your web browser to allow downloading of insecure content.
For example in Chrome browse to amazon.com (or your national site), right click the lock icon to the left of the URL and select Site Settings. From the screen that opens scroll to "Insecure content" and change the setting to "Allow". (Added: It might also be related to blockers as mentioned above.) Happened to me today. Signed in on Amazon, clicked to go to devices and content and the page it sent me too was a new format. I found the download to usb and it seemed to work but I couldn’t find the download anywhere. Then I noticed FireFox had a notification asking to allow pop ups for this site. Now working fine. Was it a change in Amazon or FireFox? Who knows

Looks like Amazon is trying to make it harder to download eBooks without taking away the feature.

This is exactly what is continuing to happen to me. I don't have this issue on my old Macbook Pro (2010 mid). On my new Macbook Air (2020; M1 chip), the problem started maybe 1-2 weeks ago. I disabled my adblock extensions on Fireforx - no joy. Same with Safari. INTERESTINGLY, before the above problem started (or before I became aware of it), on Firefox I couldn't access the 'Look Inside' feature to view the contents of ebooks. Now that issue has seemingly disappeared. And yet, while I still had that problem on Firefox, I had no issue on Safari. But, I still have that issue of not getting my downloads using both web browers. |

Allowing popups fixed the problem. Thank you everyone for your help.

Downloading ebooks: When I go to Manage my ebooks, I'm allowed to download them, but the download never occurs. I'm a bit confused, Jon, about allowing popups. Your link takes me to Amazon's home page. Remember, I have the same problem with Safari. Perhaps I'm being a bit dense for not understanding, so if you could please elaborate. I don't remember doing anything to not allow popups, but whatever I did, I apparently did it on both browsers. [Firefox and Safari.] (I would rather download the ebook, rather than fool with Kindle For Mac on my newer Mac. And then just add the ebook to calibre and let the plug-ins do the 'magic'. [Macbook Air 2020; Big Sur; M1 chip].) Last edited by Dr. Drib; 07-17-2021 at 09:20 AM. |

It's not necessarily "popups" it's a security issue. The links are not matching the main page, or are scripts or something. There is a setting somewhere you may need to change for the links to work.
Go to Manage My Content and Devices. There is … in front of each title. In fact I don't don't see ANY real links: 1. Click on … and there is a popup, but it's actually not a separate window, not a real popup. 2. Select Download and Transfer via PC. A Different pseudo popup appears. 3. Select which Kindle to download for if you have more than one. Each instance of an App or PC/Mac program counts as a "kindle" on the drop down list. 4. The OS file browser/Save as window appears. I don't have a problem with Waterfox and Umatrix script blocking, but there is some sort of issue about Amazon using different servers or not HTTPS for all scripts, so there are settings to change (once) in most browsers now. My belief is that Amazon is changing how they do these things so they stop working for many people due to security in browsers. This way Amazon can say yes it still works even though a lot of people will not be able to get it to work.

This new digital console page opens a new browser page when downloading for USB. If you've blocked pop-ups, the new browser page is blocked and the download fails to happen. On Safari: Preferences > Websites > Pop-up Windows (at bottom) > amazon.com > Allow. If you don't see amazon.com, go to amazon.com before opening Preferences. You may also get a little notification in the address bar about a blocked pop-up window and can allow it from there, but it's really subtle and I missed it at first. I don't usually use Firefox, but when I tested, I got a little notification at the top of the browser window saying a pop-up has been blocked, and if I allow the pop-up, a new browser page opens and the download proceeds. You can also go to: Preferences > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Block pop-up windows > Exceptions > enter amazon.com I am running Catalina, so Big Sur may be a little different. |

That worked (using Firefox). I have yet to test it on Safari. I think this happened due to the newest revision of Firefox.
Thank you to odamizu, Quoth, and Jon. (If I missed anyone, I apologize.) I now have a successful download from the Amazon book I purchased. ![]() Last edited by Dr. Drib; 07-17-2021 at 06:12 PM. |
