Kobo Aura One battery fully draining in a few hours

Hello,

I have an Aura One for more than 2 years and the battery usually lasts weeks (I have wifi turned off almost permanently)

For the last 3 days, my battery is going from 100% to 1% in a couple of hours, even when I am not reading, so when it's in stand-by (I have a cover).

It happened again today. I charged it during the night, unplugged it in the morning. It had a 100% charge. I turn it on this afternoon and it's at 1%.

I believe it started when I copied a new book to the reader a few days ago, just before starting reading it. Is it possible that this is linked to this specific ebook just being on the reader?

Thanks

I put it on charge since I wrote this message (30 min ago). Charging on stand-by, after 20 minutes: 13%. I turn it off and turn it back on after 10 more minutes and it's charged at 100%

I have a similar issue but I do a complete shutdown every day. The battery runs for 3-4 hours top, wifi off, my Aura One is a launch one. I have to charge it every week now.

only you can answer that for sure !
remove the suspect book, fully charge the device, measure how long the charge lasts...
then replace the book and repeat so see if the book is a factor

it may be that book is bad or it may be the battery just reached end of life, without a lot warning.
you say you've had it 2 years. was that from new or was there also a previous user?

I once had a problem like that on one of my Sony readers. I finished reading the most recently added book, deleted it, and the problem went away.

@lecmeg: What you describe is a known issue. What seems to be happening is that there is a problem in the book that when it is opened and closed, leaves a process running in the background that is using CPU, and hence battery. Restarting the device will kill the process and return things to normal until the book is opened again. Removing the book isn't really necessary, as long as you restart the device after reading it.

I don't know what is in the book that triggers this. It hasn't happened to me for a while, and I don't remember anyone reporting anything specific about it.

Thanks to all of you for your answers and feedback.

@davidfor, thanks for the confirmation. I remembered seeing a post on something similar a long time ago but wasn't sure, reason why I asked.

The book itself is a quite old epub and the content is not great, links for notes do not work, some formatting issues, spaces missing after words in italic, many issues which made me suspect this behavior could be due to the book.

My device is 2.5 years old (I bought it as new). I have another Aura One which is almost 4 years old and the battery is still very good so it was strange to see such a change overnight.

To be complete and in case it could help in the future, I had noticed two other strange behaviors while reading this book:
- Once, I left my reader on with the book open and for the first time ever, it didn't go on sleep for almost a full day (though it should go on sleep after 10 minutes and turn off after 4 hours, I am using the Custom Sleep/Power-off timeout patch)
- Each day I was reading this book, I noticed an issue with time. The clock was moving forward or backward by 12 to 20 hours (no change in timezone) and I had to resync the device.
- I thought these 2 may be related: clock changes unexpectedly and the timeout trigger doesn't happen.

Anyway, I finished the book yesterday and there was no battery issue since then. I will leave the book for the time being and see if it happens again and if it does, I will remove the book.
