Current Phrases You Can't Stand
If you're like me, then you notice things when you're reading a book or watching a movie or TV. You notice trends. Once you notice them, it seems you see them everywhere. If you're like me, then they soon get on your nerves. What once might have seemed unique and clever has become trite and over-used. I'll give a couple of examples of what I mean, and invite you to add your candidates. These are dialog, but you don't have to restrict yourself.
"Wait. What?" "I know, right?" |

What about single words? I actually get tired of actually seeing the word actually; it's actually often used too much.

My favorite ones to hate are the ones the journalists beat to death. It's finally dying out but the "N things you need to know about X" used to make me laugh. It's sort of morphed into "What we know about X".

A word that's bothering me, rather than one I can't stand
Use of the word 'liberation' in the context of the Russians arriving at Auschwitz in January 1945, and the arrival of the Free French Army arriving in Paris in August 1944.
Doesn't feel right to use the same word for both events. I think the opening of the death camps needs a different word, one that conveys the horror - but I don't have one BR Last edited by BetterRed; 01-28-2020 at 06:15 PM. Reason: title |
