Any damage done if you don't eject usb first

If you remove usb before ejecting, is there any damage done?

I know if you unplug while synching you can corrupt data but what about just charging?

It is best to eject before unplugging the USB cable in case a background process is writing files to the drive. I have seen this happen under OS X when it indexes the drive. I haven't looked into what Linux or Windows are doing, but I wouldn't be surprised if they behave in a similar manner.

Good practice to eject it if you have it connected to your computer. It won't always matter but it happens semi-regularly that the database gets corrupted if the device isn't ejected. Signing out/in usually fixes it but means it will have to rebuild your database which can take a while if you have a lot of books.

Windows and Linux could not yet have finished writing to the device. By ejecting, you make sure the data is sent to the device and that the system is done with it and nothing else has it in use. If you don't eject, you could corrupt the database and lose data.
