It is also possible that the Manufactures might go with proprietary batteries. Sony tried that with a stick-shaped battery, and so did Philips with their DCC portable (however the battery pack looked like four AA batteries packaged together with a proprietary connector). Both didn't go very far. |

I can see customers being pissed if say the new model iPhone had a smaller capacity battery. That (IMHO) won't fly. |

Not even a month after I bought my Kobo Libra Colour, it has two tiny scratches on the display. 😠 This is a first for me, because all my other readers lived in a full case 365/24/7.
I really regret keeping it in the clear bottom only case. Now it lives in the regular case I bought for out and about. Lesson learned. |

It's like the mods of iPod Classics. People have been taking iPod Classics, replacing the hard drive with flash memory (such as via an SDCard adapter), and putting in a higher capacity battery without increasing the size of the case. One person took three iPod Minis that were considered electronic waste and with a little bit of effort restored them to usability (although they did have some scratches and one had a small crack on the screen). |

I really like not having to use the power button to turn my device on and off. It's such a small thing, but is the main reason I have covers on my kindle and my tablet. I don't have one on my phone, because I don't need to press that power button on that either, but it does have a case to protect it from scratches (covers the back and has a raised lip on the front.)
I technically don't need a cover for my tablet, but that one is a fingerprint issue. I would have fingerprints all over it -- like my glasses always do! -- without the cover. |

I would be worried that your macaw could damage the battery or break the screen. Both would be very bad. I keep my devices well away from my parrot because...
...Three days after I bought my first Nook Simple Touch, I set it down, foolishly screen side up, on my desk. I was bird-sitting my brother's parrot at the time. The parrot flew across the room and landed on the shelf over the desk, and knocked off a small item which hit the screen -- because of course it would, breaking it. The NST was still on sale so I bought a replacement the next day and a cover, the "official" B&N cover because there were no others. Lesson learned. I will always have a cover or case for all my devices with screens. Nothing is placed screen side up... oh, and nothing is left out for the parrots to find and *explore* If they see their people using something, they become curious about it and will investigate. Wonderful pets, but very high maintenance. |

An issue with batteries is that we are basically at the limit as far as intersection of size vs. playing time. Part of this is due to how much has been demanded of our portable devices. With a flip phone for me it would last 2 or 3 days on a charge, with my current smart phone I now have to charge it every day (part of that is due to the aging of the battery, but it still didn't compare to my flip phone when I first got it). I had the same issue with my first Sony Reader, an e-ink device. It had great battery life...unless I decided to play music with it. After playing music for 30 minutes the charge dropped from over 90% to 50%. I never did that again. One of the things I find irritating about the iPod Classic is that considering its size it should be able to contain a large battery, one where in regular use you don't have to worry about how you use it. Unfortunately that was not the case. |

No. 2 ounces is too much by far and I don't need double the battery capacity.

![]() E-reader manufacturers tend to go to some trouble in making their products nice to look at, they come up with the idea of the devices showing book covers on the sleep screen to make them more like a book, we then go to the trouble of personalizing our e-readers to show pictures we've loaded on the sleep screen. And then we go and cover all of that up with a case to protect them! A transparent front and back cover would solve the problem of protection and still show off the e-reader, win win |

Actually, I hate back covers. I reduce the back cover to a tab and epoxy it to the back case. This is my Poke5. I did a better job on my Poke6 (Go6) beveling the sharp corners.
