TOC not publishing in ebook

I made a test .ppp file (attached) and published it as .pdf without any problems. However when I publish as .epub or .mobi the resulting file will not open in Kindle Previewer.

Please could anyone suggest where I am going wrong?

I don't see an attached file.

You are starting with input of PowerPoint Presentation? I don't think that is a supported conversion format by anything.

Printing as PDF is not the same as converting. You will need to come up with some better way to create documents in a supported format. Word/Sigil are both good starting points.

You're going wrong by not posting your question in the correct forum. Moved to the "Workshop" forum.

In other words, if you are starting with a power point document, you will have to import it into Word, make sure it is acceptable there, then see how the .doc file comes out as an epub when converted...not always a slam dunk.

Either that or you will have to re-create the document directly in Sigil or Calibre editor.

Since power point documents are all about layout, the reflowable nature of epubs is not likely to yield pleasing results.

Since newer Kindles and nearly all e-ink readers can display pdfs directly, why do the conversion?

Since reading PDFs on an e-ink screen with e-ink speed and e-ink RAM and e-ink screen size tends to be a suboptimal experience.

Works fine if you create a PDF targeted at the actual screen size of the reader. The problems arise if you try to read a PDF that's been created for A4/Letter-size pages.

I agree. But PDFs aren't usually targeted at ereader screen sizes, more's the pity. And k2pdfopt isn't necessarily/always a cure for that.

But when you (generic "you") are creating the document and doing the conversion, it's up to you to choose the right size.

But these are PDFs that the OP is creating himself. He can, therefore, choose the correct page size.

Reflowing in ANY format is where issues appear. Sigh.

Not really. ePub, Mobi, are, are designed from the ground up to be reflowable. PDF is not: PDF was intended to be a digital representation of a static page with a fixed size, and it does that very well. The problems arise when people start using it for things it wasn't designed to do.

I was just thinking of tables and images which take some gyrations to make sure they appear adequately.
