Also, I find it strange that Amazon.com has no reviews for this novel or three previous novels by Richard Evans.

Again, as has been explained on this forum ad nauseam, "free" does not mean they remain free forever. These were posted on 10/3 and 10/6, respectively. Today is 10/10. They were free at the time they were posted. They may be free for as little as 12 hours. There is no need to come back and say they are no longer free or they are not free.

Good reason to not plug these in a single thread that refreshes to the top of the list ever day...

Uh.. no.. If you click on the little blue down arrow just before the title, you go the the latest unread. If you're following the thread daily, you see the most recent post. On the other hand if you start reading a thread that's a week old at the beginning, you may find surprises.

There are a number of threads in this sub-forum that are multiple weeks old and as NightBird mentioned upthread, sometimes these freebies only last less than 24 hours.

See these two posts:

GreaseMonkey script to check Kindle prices in this forum.

Bookmarklet to check if Kindle "free" books are really free

They will check prices at Amazon without having to leave MR.
Works very well with Firefox.

Except people just finding the forum always start at the beginning of a thread.

Perhaps a new thread each week, for the very active genres? It still makes it a bit difficult to track repeats and alternate formats (vs. the old "thread per book" method)

Well, however appropriate or not the post was, thanks for tipping me off to the Kindle 100 bestselling freebies page. I'd not tumbled to this before, and it's a great resource. Cheers!

Probably the easiest "solution" is to put a disclaimer on the first post something like:

These books were free at time they were posted, but may not remain free. Please verify the price before hitting the Buy button at Amazon.

Free Friday October 12 on Amazon (US):

Madlands by K.W. Jeter Main

Murder, deception and devolution, in a warped Los Angeles that's never in the same time twice...

K. W. Jeter's hardest-to-find novel, now in a revised and corrected edition, with a new Afterword by the Author.

"K. W. Jeter has formidable powers of visual invention, and a taste for the grotesque... you will find yourself in a tale of conspiracy, treachery, tough-guy detectives, corporate greed, and TV ratings... MADLANDS is a splendid mind-trip."

Barnes and Nobles Free Friday selection is Nathan Longs Jane Carver of Waar
Quote:
A (tongue-in-cheek) homage to Burroughs’s epic swashbuckling space tales. In this updated extraterrestrial adventure, Long replaces the macho John Carter with an equally fearless heroine, Jane Carver, a hard-ridin', hard-lovin' biker chick and ex-Airborne Ranger. When Jane finds herself alone on a distant planet inhabited by all types of inhospitable aliens, it’s time to put her Ranger training to good use, and find a way home…fast!

Thanks. I wind up forgetting about the Free Fridays about half the time. B&N used to leave them free all week until the next Free Friday selection, but now they're only free on the Friday they're posted.
