Issue 501: images with same name in different directories collide in final epub file
this http://code.google.com/p/sigil/issues/detail?id=501 says it's fixed, but i seem to have the problem.
i have about 500 images in 50 or so chapter folders. sigil does ok on the first two chapters that have images and then shows missing images for the remaining chapters. the html files are from word 2007, so things are a bit messy. my html for the images looks like: img src="chapter1_files/image001.gif" thanks |

Attach the HTML files as a comment to that issue, with an explanation of where the problem occurs.

i made a small test case that shows the problem. the files in the attched zip are listed below.
the epub was made by sigil 0.3.1 4.7.0. i added the three xhtml files and saved. the opf, mbpm and prc files are not relevant. thanks book1/book1.epub book1/book1.mbp (ignore) book1/book1.opf (ignore) book1/book1.prc (ignore) book1/html/ book1/html/ch1/ book1/html/ch1/image001.gif book1/html/ch1/image002.gif book1/html/ch1/image003.gif book1/html/ch2/ book1/html/ch2/image001.gif book1/html/ch2/image002.gif book1/html/ch2/image003.gif book1/html/ch3/ book1/html/ch3/image001.gif book1/html/ch3/image002.gif book1/html/ch3/image003.gif book1/html/chapter1.xhtml book1/html/chapter2.xhtml book1/html/chapter3.xhtml book1/mbp_toc.html |

I've opened your book and looked at the xhtml, in Sigil. I must be a spazz, because I don't know what you're talking about. In your Ch. 2, you call the images thusly: Code:
<img alt="go diagram" src="ch2/image003.gif" /> I'm not sure I understand what you're doing. Are you uploading html file after html file, as, let's say, different chapters, and inside each chapter, you have images that you've named the same thing (i.e., image001, image002, image003)? If that's the case, Sigil will, normally, rename them, but it won't rename them, to the best of my knowledge, with a chapter name prefix like yours. (n.b. - it might...Valloric will know better than I, obviously, but when I've uploaded an image with the same name, it adds 001, 002, 003, appended, not prepended.) And the example, I think, is not explaining your issue--at least, it doesn't to me. What I see, in this, is simply that in Chapters 2 and 3, the image source pathname is wrong. I'd need to see the original html chapters that were uploaded, if the issue is that somehow, the IMAGES that were called in those chapters weren't uploaded? As it is now, all the images that are properly called with the correct path show...and the others don't, because the html is wrong. Can you clarify, please, Ray? Thx, Hitch |

i added each xhtml file to sigil and made the epub. i'm a little spaced out, so am doing this again as i post. this may have been an operator error. he does transfer the first folder of images and leaves the rest and the links are not satisfied. i added 5 of my real files and got similar results. so either it's broken or i am really confused. thanks i believe it was working for most of my 50 files, but perhaps i am mistaken. |

Code:
<img alt="go diagram" src="./ch2/image003.gif" /> My guess is Sigil assumed everything was Base at the epub level and has no concept of folders inside "Images" |

WHAT are the paths to the images? I think you're not paying attention to WHERE the image tags are referencing. Edited to add: Ray, I think you're making an assumption that when you upload an html file that references, as an example, "/ch2/image001," that the PATH uploads WITH the image inside of Sigil. IME, that has never been the case; simply the image uploads, so if your paths are set as img src="Ch2/imageoo1," that won't WORK. I'm sure if I'm wrong, Valloric will jump in and clarify. I hope. Do I infer from your posts here and on DTP that you are charging for this work? This is for a client? Hitch Last edited by Hitch; 11-21-2010 at 08:19 PM. Reason: Light out of darkness, one hopes. |

mobi has no problem with this. a few days ago i changed the mobi settings to *not* copy the html. he still has no problems (i.e. all the images in the prc work). Edited to add: Ray, I think you're making an assumption that when you upload an html file that references, as an example, "/ch2/image001," ... no, it all get copied. the html files and the images get renamed and moved. sometimes that html files are split (by calibre). > Do I infer from your posts here and on DTP that you are charging for this > work? This is for a client? this is for a friend. i am an *old* programmer. seems like there are a lot of problems with things like this and tocs and ncx's. i have been annoyed enough that i am writing a tool to eat html and make an epub. should'nt be too hard, but i may not make it by the turkey, so i may have to struggle with the existing tools. any inputs you (or others) might have about an html2epub would be greatly appreciated. the initial goal would be to eat my validated xhtml 1.1 and make an epub that sqeaked by epubcheck. you can reach me at rtayek at ca dot rr dot com. thanks thanks |

In your ePub, you've messed things up big time. You do not have the directories for the images for chapter 2 & chapter 3. So the XML code is looking for the images where they do not exist. In fact, they aren't even in the ePub.
