Flip scanning
This should be an interesting development for those of us who like to read E-books.
I get the impression you can scan the whole book in something like a minute. Edit: Youtube embedding fixed, thanks to dreams! Last edited by Kumabjorn; 09-11-2010 at 02:10 AM. |

Yes, thank you.
Now I see, you don't put in the whole URL, just the Youtube file code. Stupid little me. |

Looks like it would be extremely easy to miss pages.

I think that was for demonstration purposes, the end product will have some sort of mechanical page flipper ensuring that the whole book is processed properly. And no, it isn't going to be available for you and me in the foreseeable future. However, libraries and archives ought to be interested. Maybe you could rent an hour or so on one of their machines?

I wish I had this for an hour or so to add some of my favorite books that are probably never going to hit an ebook store anytime soon since they are older but still within copyright (my personal use only).

Yeah, I thought it might be far too easy to miss some pages..... and good luck doing that with a hardcover!

I swear with the "can't do" attitudes out there the wheel would never have been invented.

Why round? We have been thoroughly happy with elliptical now for 4,000 years, what on earth makes you think that circular is better? You do know why we invented fire, don't you? Throw it on top! |

Well, it's quite frustrating though; they developed that great software, they made two different versions of cameras (Bfs-Auto and Bfs-Solo ); yet after quite some years there seems to be still no info whatsoever on when any of their products (software or hardware) will be released. I certainly could not find any information; anyone, maybe from Japan?

Or the big publishing houses afraid of losing control of their product pulled some political strings to make sure it doesn't get released to the public. It's only paranoia if they aren't out to get you.

But such devices haven't been suppressed, they're just more expensive than the average private individual can comfortably afford... there are a number of dual camera book scanners and even a site with full specs for building your own - hardly suppressed when Google will find 'em... maybe it is just paranoia...
