USB charger for Kobo vox

Hi,

I am looking to buy a wall charger micro usb for the kobo Vox for work. Since the it does not charge from the usb port off my work computer. I want to know if you see problem using this charger that I found on ebay. it look like the same power requirement as the kobo charger:

That looks much nicer than the adapter that comes with it and the price is great. I'd also love to know what the experts think.

I can share that I've been using a Blackberry cord and plug with my DIL's Kobo Touch and it works fine.

That likely won't work. I actually have an HTC Desire phone and I tried it the other day (also wanted to use it at work), but I may as well have shoved a Q-Tip in there cause nothing happened.

Seems odd that Kobo.com nor chapters/indigo don't seem to have spares for sell yet!

I bought a 5V/2A charger at Staples for another device. It was probably too pricey, but I needed it in a hurry.

taming: does it actually work? I bought one of these for cheap: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_TouchPad#Power_Adapter (which puts out 2A) and it will not charge the vox. Plugged in and left over night with no change to battery charge.

The Vox charger has a custom pinout that allows the device to recognize when it is connected to it's own charger and report charging status. So, 3rd party chargers won't work properly in that respect.

That said, a third party charger, as long as it is 5v, 2a WILL charge the battery. You just won't see the charging indicator stuff. But if you look at the battery status area of the settings, you can confirm that it is taking on charge.

I think someone mention it before. But to confirm : right now there no way to buy a Vox charger from kobo ?

I think I left my Vox in overnight on the Touch micro USB adapter over night and it did charge up. I'll try testing that tonight. Obviously it'd take 8 hours to charge at 0.5 amps compared to the wall charger at 2 amps. But still that might be sufficient for the original poster who wanted to charge the Vox at work.
