Post Voice recognition apps (speech to text)

Is there any apps on voice recognition (speech to text)? I want to use the build -in microphones to record my voice so that the documents to go can put it into text. I have found several but they are all for Microsoft operating systems. Any help would be great and well appreciated.

There are a few speech to text apps for the iPhone so if Android versions dont exist yet, they will soon. Note that those apps generally work by recording the sound file, emailing it to a central server, and sending you back the speech-to-text output. The versions that I have used all appear to limit the sound recording to 30 seconds or a minute or so.

I am not sure it is techinically feasible to develop speech-to-text apps on a cellphone OS like Android. I could be wrong though - since android devices are getting more powerful and the underlying linux is a pretty efficient and robust OS.

Evernote can OCR documents you upload, and there are websites that convert files to PDF, so maybe there's a service out there that you can upload a dictation file and receive the text file back...?

Paid app called voice text

There is a paid app called Voice text http://voicetext.blogspot.com/
works decently, I have it on my phone. Maybe if you contact the developer he will sell it outside the market.

Exactly the app we need, designed to be an alternate keyboard.

BUT, "This application cannot be installed on this phone", so we're out of luck

I wonder why

I wonder why, and if there was enough interest I wonder if the developer would write a version for the Edge?
(I emailed the developer)

I hope something will come of this, the edge has such potential. A speech to text app would open the door to so many fronts. Who would be able resit the Edge then?

As I browse through other Android forums I noted that Android firmware updates to 2.1 (Droid and Nexus) have the speech to text feature in the update. Hope this applies to the Edge as well.

Dependent on Google Voice search?

I wonder if it is dependent on Google Voice Search, which can be found here

The Google Voice Search 2.1 apk also won't install "on this phone"...

Google seems to be exceedingly unhelpful in many ways regarding the edge...

Try the 1.5

2.1 version might be specific to a phone with the Android 2.1 system, like the Droid. If so 1.5 would be backwards compatible with the 1.6 system. And then again it might not work either.

1.5 did install. When it started up it asked if I wanted to use positioning data (GPS) and I said "Yes". It then crashed. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but it didn't ask about GPS the second time so that I could say "No" this time (must be cached settings somewhere). In any case, it continues to crash on launch.

EDIT: Perhaps someone else can try installing the 1.5 version and say "No" to the "use positioning data" promotion...?

Later, I get my edge back today, but I will be in school until 7. Uninstalling and rebooting may clear the cached settings.
