Authors To Reveal Future of E-Books. Hint: It’s Big!
Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Val McDermid, Robert Crais, Laurie R. King, Jacqueline Winspear...and a couple hundred other scribblers will be speaking and hanging around the hotel bar at Bouchercon this week in San Francisco.
I’ll be appearing on the “Books to Film” panel and will spill my horror stories of the Writer-in-Hollywood. The folks I want to hear are on the e-books panel: Lee Goldberg, Boyd Morrison, Bill Fitzhugh, Wendy Hornsby, and David Hewsen. E-books are already outselling dead-tree books on Amazon. What’s in the future? What about pricing? Will e-books kill off the New York publishers? I’ll tell you after they tell me. What else is new? Today is the Kindle launch of "Mortal Sin" ($2.99), my 1994 Jake Lassiter thriller. The ethically challenged Miami lawyer is sleeping with a client’s wife and chasing down a mob-backed plan to bring casino gambling to an Everglades Indian reservation. In keeping with the rules, I'll post more about it on the Author Self-Promotion pages. Paul Levine "To Speak for the Dead" "Night Vision" "False Dawn" "Reversal" "Mortal Sin" |

Sounds great! I'm particularly interested to learn if the panel is sensitive to reader concerns about DRM and price.

Price will be a HOT topic on the panel.
DRM, too. Making e-reading easy, accessible, and affordable is every author's goal. Well, most every author. My e-books, all of which appeared previously in hardcover and paperback, are priced at $2.84 to $2.99. (Don't confuse them with my titles owned by Random House, which are priced higher). Yes, all of Bouchercon is open to the public, but it's a pay event that runs tomorrow through Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco. Here's the link with a complete list of attendees, speakers, panels, and everything except the amount of booze consumed in the hotel bar. BOUCHERCON 2011. Thanks for the info on Bouchercon. If I didn't already have plans this weekend, I take a drive up to San Francisco.
I look forward to your report on how things went and I hope your panel goes well. |

I'll be at Bouchercon and this panel is a priority for me. To answer the question about attendance, a registration fee is required. But you can register and attend for only one day if you choose.
