Remove DRM from LRX
Hello,
I know this has been asked in January 2008, but maybe the answer has changed since then: Is there a tool to convert LRX files to LRF (i.e. Sony format non hindered by DRM)? Thanks. |

If you can read LRX on your computer, there's always the evergreen, time-consuming workaround...
If you can't, there always Dragon Dictate and its embedded word processor... |

You can train DD in voice recog, right? I haven't looked at it for years. That would be a fun way to defeat DRM Even if it doesn't work well, it is sure to produce hilarious renderings/mangling of classical works a la Babelfish. Last edited by acidzebra; 09-26-2008 at 06:04 AM. |

DD is pretty amazing. We have a number of blind people at the company where I work and they use it. The results are well-nigh perfect.

If you have a similar situation to me, in which you bought LRX protected files on the Sony site, and now want to read them on other readers you DO have an option.
I found that when you log in to the Sony site now allows you to re-download the files in the ePub file format. Once you have done this, you can then remove the DRM utilizing the commonly available Python scripts such as ineptepub (google it) Tom |

This thread was from 2008. The situation has, of course, changed since then.

There never has been a way to remove DRM from LRX and there never will be.

This is an update about removing DRM
Quote:
It is correct that there is no known way to remove the DRM from a LRX file. But IF you have purchased a LRX e-book from the Sony book store, or if you received their 'free' books when you purchased your Sony e-Reader, you CAN go back to the Sony bookstore now that they have moved to e-pub, and download that same book in the e-pub format. So, it is certainly not removing the DRM from the LRX file. But it is allowing us an ability to read the book if a format (e-pub) in which there are available techiques to the DRM. So practically, for those of us who have LRX books, there is a work around, which was not available to us until recently. |

In my opinion, most of the time, people who open old threads waste all of our time. I saw this thread active and opened it to see if I could help, only to discover that NO ONE here was asking a question. There is a reason warning messages show up when replying to old threads. If possible please heed the warning message and let sleeping threads lie. Quote:

Thank you for correcting my lack of forum manners. I will know better when I post next time. Sorry that I didn't understand the first time.

No biggie, it happens often enough. If people take offence to someone not seeing the date of the thread, which is easy to overlook, then perhaps they should request that the forum owners push any threads that or a certain age into an archive which is clearly marked ARCHIVED.
