An excellent point, and I don't disagree. But I also think that a built-in front-light would be really cool.

does anybody remember the green backlight of the original palm's ? This would be ideal for reading in the dark , and was it not really low power, i seem to remember my little palm ran forever .....

EL backlights are relatively low power, but I'd guesstimate that a modern LED based backlight would have about the same efficiency. The real problem with EL backlights is that they tend to to fair well with extended usage.
