Jumping to items in book list without activating keyboard shortcuts
When the book list is in focus, typing in a key not associated with any actions will act similarly to Windows Explorer in that it'll jump to items beginning with that letter.
Is there any way to do this for letters that are associated with a hotkey, aside from adding modifier keys to them all? Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-25-2021 at 10:36 PM. |

No, if you want to use single keypresses to jump in the book list you will need to remove them from the normal shortcuts.

I'd quite like a Tweak that disabled book list jumping on letter press entirely. I never use it deliberately but often stumble on it inadvertently.

I'm completely the opposite. I am so used to tapping a letter to jump in lists elsewhere, I keep expecting calibre to work this way.

I was about to say I never use it anywhere, but then realised I do use it in my file manager, but it only acts on the file/folder name. Calibre acts on current column.

Yep!
Using 'Jump' has become almost second nature. (Been using Apps that had some support for this from waaay back in DOS 6 days) I use it many places within Calibre (field lookup lists), file dialogs (Do folk know, you can even rename/delete files while IN these dialog?) |

I am not suggesting anything be taken away, only that a tweak be provided to disable letter key jumping in the book list, which I would expect to default to enabled.
Because I edit metadata in the book list I am apt to type the first letter of the value I want before I've pressed F2 - as a consequence the F2 press opens up the cell I want but not in the book I want BR |

I wouldn't mind if the tweak also had an option to set a modifier key, perhaps tab, for jumping. That would allow jumping for reserved hotkeys.
