I know it has been on offer before but Caimh MacDonnell's excellent The man with one of those faces is free on Kindle from Amazon UK and Amazon.com for 1 week to 'celebrate' it being optioned for TV.

The first time somebody tried to kill him was an accident.

The second time was deliberate.

Now Paul Mulchrone finds himself on the run with nobody to turn to except a nurse who has read one-too-many crime novels and a renegade copper with a penchant for violence. Together they must solve one of the most notorious crimes in Irish history . . .

. . . or else they’ll be history.

A Man With One of Those Faces is the first book in Caimh McDonnell's Dublin Trilogy, which melds fast-paced action with a distinctly Irish acerbic wit.

The Complete Quin and Satterthwaite: Love Detectives by Agatha Christie is £1.99 as part of Kindle UK's Valentines Day sale, good until Feb 20.

This is an omnibus of Quin and Satterthwaite books and short stories, so if you have an extensive collection of Agatha Christie titles, this may have nothing new for you. Check carefully before you buy - the titles in the omnibus are listed at the bottom of the blurb. If you need/want some or all, though, this is a pretty good price for a lot of reading featuring a couple of Christie's lesser known protagonists.

link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Qu...dp/B00GFD6X84/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A brand new ebook omnibus featuring Agatha Christie’s favourite characters: Messrs Quin and Satterthwaite.

Harley Quin is an enigma. He appears and disappears unexpectedly – and usually by strange tricks of the light caused by stained-glass windows or flickering firelight. His background, family and friends are all a mystery – his almost supernatural powers of detection are, however, very real.

Mr Satterthwaite is altogether more normal – fundamentally a snob, he lives the carefree lifestyle of a bachelor whilst indulging his hobbies. Yet, beneath this facade is a deep vein of loneliness that compels him to observe everyone and everything.

Together they are an unstoppable, crime-fighting tour de force – Sattherthwaite’s skills of observation are honed by Quin’s subtle questioning, bringing to light the most pertinent clues in any crime. With each acting as a catalyst for the other, the criminal fraternity had best beware…

This volume brings all the Quin and Satterthwaite novels and short stories together for the first time, and showcases the pair’s talents in a way that clearly explains why Agatha Christie herself was so fond of her creations: ‘The Love Detectives’.

Contains:
The Mysterious Mr Quin
Three-Act Tragedy
Dead Man’s Mirror
The Love Detectives
The Harlequin Tea Set

The Julius Katz Collection contains six short stories and a novella from the Julius Katz and Archie pastiche series, which I really like. I wish Zeltserman would do more titles in this series, but he seems to do more thriller-ish stuff...

Anyway, the collection is free right now at Kindle US and UK.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P8EDITI
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Julius-Katz...dp/B00P8EDITI/

Spoiler:
Quote:
The award-winning Julius Katz mysteries have delighted thousands of fans since first appearing on the pages of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine in 2009. JULIUS KATZ introduced readers to Boston's most brilliant, eccentric, and possibly laziest detective, as well as his sidekick, Archie, a tiny marvel of whizbang computer technology with the heart and soul of a hard-boiled PI.

If you haven't had a chance to meet Julius and Archie yet, now's your chance to get caught up in these charming, delightful and very unusual mystery stories as this collection contains the first six Julius Katz mystery stories originally published in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, as well as a never-before published novella, JULIUS KATZ AND THE CASE OF A SLICED HAM

In any case, this series is pretty much what you would imagine - a pastiche of the Nero Wolfe/Archie series by Rex Stout. I've read (I think) all of them, and quite enjoyed them all.

This title is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about the next 2 days.

The Island of Peril is about half-way through John Creasey's Department Z series. It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 2 1/4 more days.

‘Mr. Creasey realises that it is the principal business of thrillers to thrill.’ Church Times

On a top secret island, the Germans are perfecting a paralysing gas. This gas would be able to disable an entire infantry troop, a crew of a ship, or the pilots of aircraft.

With the looming threat of this noxious gas, it’s up to Department Z to find this mysterious island, where the gas is being manufactured, and steal the formula to prevent the Germans from using it as their ultimate weapon.

The Lord Peter Wimsey Short Story Collection by Dorothy L. Sayers is pretty much what it says it is - a collection of four books worth of LP short stories, including these collections:
  • Lord Peter Views the Body
  • Hangman's Holiday
  • In the Teeth of the Evidence
  • Striding Folly
It has dropped to $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable). I've never taken the time to track down all of the LP short stories, and which different collections (these and others) they appear in, but this has to be a good chunk, if not all, of them.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFWZCYP
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...ory-collection

Spoiler:
Quote:
Four volumes of short stories featuring the iconic British aristocrat and sleuth from “one of the greatest mystery story writers” (Los Angeles Times).

A gentleman needs hobbies. For Lord Peter Wimsey—a Great War veteran with a touch of shell shock—collecting rare books, sampling fine wines, and catching criminals are all most pleasant diversions. In these Golden Age whodunits, “Lord Peter can hardly be spared from the ranks of the great detectives of the printed page” (The New York Times).

Lord Peter Views the Body: In these early adventures, Lord Peter confronts a stolen stomach, a man with copper fingers, and a deadly adventure at Ali Baba’s cave, among other conundrums that tax his intellect, humor, acting talent, knowledge of metallurgy, and taste for fine wines. It’s not easy being a gentleman sleuth, but Lord Peter was born to play the part.

Hangman’s Holiday: Two of the genre’s most memorable detectives, Lord Peter Wimsey—noble by birth, brilliant by nature—and free-spirited traveling wine salesman Montague Egg, confront menaces from purloined pearls to poisoned port.

In the Teeth of the Evidence: In this volume of “truly remarkable stories,” a pair of classic Wimsey stories appear alongside five featuring Montague Egg, the eccentric purveyor of wines whose powers of deduction could give His Lordship a run for his money. A handful of other glittering puzzles round out the volume, “adding much to the already great reputation of Dorothy L. Sayers” (The New York Times).

Striding Folly: Lord Peter confronts land barons, killers, and the terror that comes from raising three young sons. Through it all, his clear thinking never fails him, and he tackles these puzzles with his usual aplomb. He may be a family man now, but like a good wine, a great detective only gets better with age.

Ruth Rendell praised Sayers for her “great fertility of invention, ingenuity and a wonderful eye for detail,” and P. D. James said, “She brought to the detective novel originality, intelligence, energy and wit.” Those same sparkling qualities are on display in these outstanding short stories.

Well, the first volume of "Pot Thief" mysteries is back up to $14.49, but now the second volume is on sale. It's currently $3.99 at Amazon (US). Once again, this volume is published by Open Road Media and they are very active when it comes to changing prices -- often, as quickly as 24 hours.
