File Conversion Requirement for Fixed Format Books
Amazon has posted an announcement on KDP of File Conversion Requirement for Fixed Format Books.

April 24, 2023

Starting May 3, 2023, we’re updating eBook file conversion requirements for SVG images and Viewport metadata in Fixed Format titles to ensure manuscripts support Enhanced Typesetting—a Kindle feature that allows readers to customize text size, font type, margins, and more. Most books already support Enhanced Typesetting, so we’re updating these requirements to improve the reading experience for more customers.

For titles already available on Kindle, no action is needed. Your eBooks will continue to be available to customers as they are today.

For new or resubmitted titles, if your file doesn’t meet the new requirements, you will receive an error message with steps to fix it on your KDP Bookshelf.

This makes little sense to me. The combination of fixed format with reader customization of fonts is just wrong. As the documentation on creating fixed format books from the last link explicitly states, they do not support enhanced typesetting.

What I suspect is that Amazon is trying to convert more fixed layout Kindle books to KFX format and is calling that enhanced typesetting in this announcement since they don’t acknowledge the existence of KFX in their documentation.

Amazon has updated their announcement to change the start date for the new requirements from April 18 to May 3.
