Nope, that calibre 6.17 is a regular calibre install. When a portable install is executing it will have "calibre Portable n.nn created by Kovid Goyal…" in the status line.

You need to run the "calibre-portable.exe" directly, from your file manager, not from a pre-existing desktop or start menu shortcut.

And I'm going to move your post to its own thread.

After cleanup the Calibre registry, the correct version will be displayed. The problem may have occurred because you used the installed version in the past.

Just update calibre 6.17 to the latest calibre 7.x and enjoy.

Just update to calibre-portable 7.5.1. However, simply applying the update did not fix the problem.

You obviously have two calibre portable installs and you need to delete the older one and run the correct one.

Even more, it has an asterisk in the status line indicating it is a source install.

@toni-trus: you have some serious cleanup to do.
  • Uninstall all standard (non-portable) calibre installs, usually in "\Program Files\Calibre2", but wherever you put it.
  • Remove the calibre source code you have somewhere.
  • Remove the environment variable you set to point at calibre's source code.
  • Remove calibre2 from the PATH environment variable.
At this point you should be able to run whichever calibre portable version you wish.

Good catch, I hadn't noticed the asterisk. And it's a good thing that someone finally saw it 70 days+ after the original post...
