Question DOCX to EPUB footnote issue
When converting DOCX, both endnotes and footnotes end up as endnotes in the output file. They are linked correctly both directions, but I want them to be popup footnotes (epub:type="noteref"). How do I fix this in an automated way (I'm converting several books and there will be revisions so I don't want to manually edit the epub every time)

Footnotes in docx conversions popup automatically, at least in the calibre viewer. See the demo docx file https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/con...-specific-tips

They arent marked as footnotes using epub specific markup however as the docx input plugin doesnt do that. It might be possible to have it output role="noteref" which is the modern equivalent of epub:type="noteref" open an issue about it so I dont forget.

Many epub apps and many dedicated eReaders don't popup footnotes at all, or only if note too long or if only one paragraph.

The epub:type="noteref" and role="noteref" aren't well supported and some apps / ereaders will "popup" short footnotes without it.
