I want repurpose my old Kindle 4 as a clock.

I am trying to repurpose my old Kindle 4 as a smart clock, but i can't find any tutorials for my model. The problem is that every tutorial is either for older kindle with launchpad or kindle paperwhite with touchscreen. If you know something about this, I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

The simplest I know is to open the Kindle web browser, type in "time.is" and just let that web cite run. It provides a fairly large clock.

You could probably write a small javascript program to show just the digital clock and use one of the tools that will run "local" websites on a kindle to run it, but I haven't tried that.

It seems to only connect to websites with no https version.

Also how much webtraffic is that? Though it should be minuscule. A clock that needs the Internet is a bit iffy.

I'd not buy a wall or LCD "radio" clock that doesn't have manual setting as sometimes reception of the transmitter is too poor.

I think there is no support for web browser in old Kindles anymore. But for Kindle 3 there is a very detailed tutorial and I wish someone would have made one for Kindle 4

You may want to try this clock and weather site specifically designed to Kindle:
https://0111.github.io/Kindle_WeatherCN/

The configuration page (which comes up in English on my computer) is
https://0111.github.io/Kindle_WeatherCN/config.html

The weather uses Openweathermap so the "API Key" is a request for a key from that site (which is free).

I found this on GoodEReader (at https://goodereader.com/blog/electro...oogle_vignette).

I went through the code quickly and it doesn't seem to include anything scary.

No promises, though.

Later Kindles, and configuration is in Chinese. Maybe you are using Chrome/Chromium or similar with translate.
It switches to https even if http used.
