Finally, they've addressed the memory issue. While not a HUGE deal...it did get rather annoying from time to time.

Well, I'll give it a few days of use before I get really excited.

I know plenty of companies (my current included) that aren't happy with the new firefox update schedules...
We just finished a testing sequence, against FF5. The tester should now start again against FF7? By the time he's finished with that, we'll probably be at 10 or so... |

Firefox went to faster release schedules to keep pace with the updates Google puts out for Chrome. What this means is that there are generally fewer things changed per release. I don't like Firefox's version numbering as many updates don't warrant a new primary version number.
Chrome: 8.0.552 - 2 December, 2010 9.0.597 - 3 February, 2011 10.0.648 - 8 March, 2011 11.0.696 - 27 March, 2011 12.0.742 - 7 June, 2011 13.0.782 - 2 August, 2011 14.0.835 - 16 September, 2011 15.0.874 - 15 September, 2011 16.0.891 - 22 September, 2011 That's right, according to Wikipedia, version 15 came out a day before version 14. I was using Firefox 3.6 up until this week and was really only six months behind. Given my usual upgrade of wait for version n.1 to come out I was only three months behind. The problem with the Chrome and now Firefox release schedules and version numbers is that we've lost the indicator of the significance of a release and it makes it more difficult to determine when a company should move to the new version given constraints with projects and testing cycles. |
