Goodreads has published an API

It would be quite interesting to hook up Calibre and Goodreads....

http://www.goodreads.com/api

Not that I've got time for that these days. But maybe somebody might take the idea and run with it.

I don't need the social things, but I do like an extra source for metadata and esp. covers.

Also... it could help listing books you've read in calibre (which is not available atm)

Well, as a source for metadata or covers it's okay, as long as I don't have to create an account. I don't see the need for a read books- feature from Goodreads, as it's easily done with what Calibre provides now: Just create a custom boolean column.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. A source of metadata and custom category information. The possibility exists to synchronize the two, as well.

There really isn't room in Calibre for the social aspects of Goodreads.

I like the 'social whatever' of Goodreads - lol. My friends and I like to discuss what we read and share good stuff. I would love to see some kind of synchronization so I don't have to do duplicate work at both. At least ratings, read/not read/to read, and my comments/reviews. That would be very helpful to me and probably a lot of others as well. It may also expand the exposure of Calibre quite a bit.
