SF Gateway sale (UK)
SF Gateway are having a sale in December, reducing all of their full-price books to £2.99. It should be across all vendors they deal with.
A good chance to fill your pockets with classic SF. I have long felt that ths is the price they should always be, given that their output is mostly short older books, and they are no stranger to the OCR typo, but the offer does also include the SF Masterworks and Fantasy Masterworks series, which contain some really good books. I bought about a dozen in last year's sale, and have so far restricted myself to just one, this year, but there's still time. I believe the site said the sale was due to start on the 7th, but its already live at Amazon UK. I haven't checked elsewhere. |

Thanks for telling us about that. Is there any way to find out, using an Amazon search, which books they publish?

To answer my own question, searching the Kindle Store for "gateway science fiction" seems to find them.

Not that I can see, annoyingly. I think the publisher is given as Gollancz in most cases, which is no use at all. You can search for SF Masterworks and Fantasy Masterworks, but apart from that you seem to need to look up their authors on the SFGateway site and search by author.
I did find some that hadn't been reduced, just now (by RA MacAvoy), so maybe they haven't quite finished setting it up, yet. I still bought another one. This is going to be expensive. |

Oh dear. Huge numbers of books there that I had no idea were available as eBooks. The yellow hardback Gollancz SF books were the core of my teenage library reading. I can see I've got a lot of catching up to do .

If you go to the books department and use the advanced search option, put gateway in the publisher box, select science fiction and fantasy in the subject box, and select kindle books in the format box, this gives you a list of the books.

Yes, some of Harry Harrison's "Stainless Steel Rat" books are still at £4.99. I see they have some nice "collections", too. Eg, the first 6 "Stainless Steel Rat" books for £14.99, which is a good saving over even the £2.99 per book price, which would be £18.

Looks like the French bastiches in charge idea of on sale in Australia is the standard price for the USA. Around $8.50 and $5.00 depending on length.
Down from $13.50 and $8.50. |

That's pretty much the same as we're paying. Corresponds to our £4.99/£2.99 prices. Not sure I see where anything French has to do with it - can you elaborate?

Hachette owns 'em and charges way more in Australia than anywhere else. It definitely is not the SF Gateway people that want to charge us 2/3 more.
So quite likely the 2.99 sale means 4.99 or so with whatever conversion here. Or, 2/3 more. All the new books seem to be the usual $13-$14 with the odd $18-$20 Last edited by Blue Tyson; 12-02-2012 at 07:48 AM. Reason: French ripoffery |

What price are you seeing for Gordon R. Dickson's "Way of the Pilgrim"? I've just bought that for £2.99.

Interesting, that one is 5.32. And not a shortish one that I recall.
Dune is also $5.32 http://www.amazon.com/Dune-ebook/dp/...4452565&sr=1-8 Skylark of Valeron is 8.53, how about yours? "- http://www.amazon.com/Skylark-Valero...4452565&sr=1-1 So is possible that going to match prices here then and they are propagating through, or someone changed ours to lower then will get told off. |
