Can somebody who is running a browser on the iLiad browse to this URL: http://my.safaribooksonline.com/0596007124 press the "Hide" button for the navigation on the left and make a screenshot ?! That would be very appreciated. |

Blue,
thank you soo much for trying this. That looks very promissing. Do you think it is readable ? That would be such a killer argument for the iLiad. How long does it take to load a page or to move to the next page ? Do you think it is usable on the iLiad (Looks like safari books does not support changing the fontsize). Thank you |

It's readable alright... but it's small
Loading a page takes about 5 seconds I guess, not that long but when you're use to surfing with a computer, it's pretty long. I've got minomo on my iliad but I hardly use it. But screen quality of the iliad is just perfect, speed is another issue. |

From what I've seen when I still had a Safari subscription, it relies heavily on Ajax. Quite amazing if the Minimo port can handle this!

Yes I am amazed too, and now I am sure that the iLiad will become my second reader :-).
I just hope minimo still handles safari well when one is locked into his account. |

I tried this as well. It is not really very usable. It is slow, and the text is too small. I thought O'Reilly would release a browsing application for the Iliad. It wouldn't take much. Just log in, view book shelf, read books with page bar and larger text. They gave away (2) Iliad devices at a conference last year. I thought that meant they might support the device.... oh well.
If I ever have time I would write this application. An application using Java and Rhino should be able to execute the Javascript used on the site well enough to render the text. This type of application shouldn't be against the TOS ( which doesn't allow robots ), as long as it doesn't cache too much, and acts like a browser. |

I too have a safari account and was debating between getting an illiad (main gripe is size actually.. I am used to that price for gadgets) or a kindle as access to safari would be the best option for me.
Safari has two view types: Book view and HTML view. HTML displays larger (for web browsers) and both have zoom features. Is the text still unreadable in HTML zoomed in? |
