The Manitou by Graham Masterton is only $0.99 at Amazon US. Probably Masterton's best known novel (yet one I haven't read yet).

It was turned into a hilariously hokey movie starring Tony Curtis back in the '70's. It's the only movie I've seen that ends with a Native American dwarf and a topless woman shooting magic at each other in outer space.

But the core story is good. I really should read the book.

An ancient vengeful spirit attempts to return through the body of a terrified young woman in this horror classic by an award-winning “master of the genre” (Rocky Mountain News).

I've slowed down posting deals by authors I haven't already read, but this one is an exception, just because I love these types of stories: a fictional treatment of a true, but mysterious event.

Dyatlov Pass by Alan K. Baker is $0.99 at Amazon US.

In February 1959, a group of friends went on a ski-hiking trip to a remote mountain in the northern Urals.

Something killed them...

When a rescue expedition eventually found their camp, they discovered that for some unknown reason, the nine friends had cut their way out of their tent (instead of simply opening the flaps) and fled down the mountain, half undressed and without their shoes. Some had died of hypothermia, while others had strange injuries which one medical examiner stated were consistent with a high-speed car crash. One of them had apparently had her tongue removed.

Alarmed and mystified, the Soviet government classified the case as top secret and closed off the region to all civilians for the next three years.

Years later, a man is discovered wandering in the wilderness, exhausted and terrified… and he has a terrifying story to tell.

He has another novel, based on a true mysterious event called The Lighthouse Keeper. I'm adding that one to my ereaderiq.
