I'm using this KOReader nightly and the frontlight works perfectly (as well everything else)! koreader-kindlepw2-arm-kindlepw2-linux-gnueabi-v2018.11.1-27-gafc4be3_2018-11-16 |

I'll be posting updated packages for the LTE variants later tonight .
(Sorry, last few days were a bit busy over here ). @homeceo43: Great, thanks for the feedback! . @Ammonite: Nope, you just messed up the txz packages install, so that's all you'll need to redo . |

NiLuJe, you rock!! Love the screensaver hack, and this PW4 is finally closer to the Kobo Forma.
For cover mode, I assume KFX files aren't supported yet? Had to re-sideload my books in mobi format, and the hack worked. I ask because I like the enhanced typography/bold settings available with KFX, but I'm not sure how to get that in mobi. So now I have to choose between ET (and any other advantages of KFX) vs. screensaver hack. |

@Ammonite: They should be . There may be some quirks with some specific files, but until Amazon updates their YellowJacket format again, it should generally work okay.

If you do ... That has been supported (via a patch) for almost two years now. It could be that the patch never made it into the repository branch the PW4 SS build was made. NiLuJe will be able to discover if it got skipped (has happened before). |

@knc1: I should be caught up with the patches since this Fall .
@all: Updated snapshots w/ LTE handling are out . @makue: Latest MRPI will try harder to remount the rootfs RO... It will either work, or fail again 5s later . @coplate: I took the liberty of updating the first post re: packaging notes, so you don't have to keep track of that . Is tapping the lower right corner of the screen supposed to turn off/on the frontlight on the Kindle like it does on the Kobo Aura One? If so, I need to amend my observation regarding the KOReader version above. Vertical swiping the left side of the screen works correctly changing the frontlight. However, tapping the lower left of the screen does not turn the frontlight off (or on). Since I usually don't turn off the frontlight, it did not occur to me to check earlier. Just thought I would let you know. This issue may have been looked at already since the version of KOReader I'm using is from a couple of days ago. |

@homeceo43: I honestly don't know, I'll double-check the next time I dig up the PW2 .

NiLuJe,
A little more info that I forgot to add...when tapping the bottom left of the screen the message "Frontlight is off." or "Frontlight is on." displays, but the frontlight does not turn off or on. Swiping down the left side the screen several times will turn off light and "Frontlight is off." message displays. Swipe up and light turns back on. Just tapping that bottom left corner has no effect even though those messages display. |

Ordered 32GB PW4 without SO from german amazon on Nov 14, arrived today.
Arrived with 5.10.0.1, flashed identical factory image and jailbroke, hotfixed, updated to normal FW. All works. Massive thanks to everyone involved, you work fast. Mirror - no guarantee those files will stay up. update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_v2_5.10.0.1_facto ry.bin SHA512:d7aec3844fc6bc1a3e0ad4ad0d5f3b62703a9ac3502 de0e9f71d25f82d416d1d44db21c312124f994a0d0441579ec 5f30c28832e40da4a976845738123d43fc1 https://cloud2.rys.pw/s/EotAapFKEqgmne3 update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_v2_5.10.0.2_facto ry.bin SHA512:314c99992227256b14bccacb03591ac1c5a0a069abc ef0fae4b12dc2b0038021eb65223d045e0338c98d5d9d54e7a d0c9369dc7add8edae05751aef267f5b003 https://cloud2.rys.pw/s/H7qnWCsWt9mq2ze EDIT: Looks like KUAL isn't working after all. @homeceo43: Okay, confirmed that it should work .
Could you dig around /sys/class/backlight/ and see if you can find a "brightness" or "intensity" pseudofile that will actually kill the light if you echo 0 to it? |

I was going to tell you this information earlier (but work got in the way)... I completely removed KOReader from the PW3, then I copied the entire koreader folder (and the koreader folder under extensions) from the PW4 to the PW3 (and I did this to keep all the customized settings I already created on the PW4) and tapping the lower left of the screen when a book is open turns the frontlight off and on on the PW3. So same exact KOReader version (v2018.11.1-27-gafc4be3_2018-11-16) on both devices. When a book is open, tapping lower left of PW3 turns frontlight off/on. PW4 does not. Both flash the frontlight on/off messages. I am so grateful for the privilege to be able to use this awesome software (and it just keeps getting better and better). I wish I could help more with your question, but I just don't know how. Perhaps you could provide guidance, or someone here who knows what you are asking could help? |
