The Spotted Dog is the seventh and most recent (2019), after a several year hiatus, in the Corinna Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood, who is probably better known for her Phryne Fisher series.

Spotted has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable). Nice to see a nice price on a recent title...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T816RKQ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-spotted-dog-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
Betrayal is a bitter pill to swallow...

Rising at four o'clock every morning isn't Corinna Chapman's favorite part of running her Australian bakery, Earthly Delights, and the glowing light of dawn starts to feel even harsher when a seemingly disturbed man collapses in her shop. When the man, a military veteran, comes around and reveals that his beloved ex-service dog is missing, Corinna and her longtime companion, Daniel, feel compelled to help. It soon becomes clear, though, that they have gotten involved in something much bigger and more complicated than they had bargained for... especially when threatening notes begin to appear in Corinna's apartment.

Along with searching for the kidnapped dog and trying to stay out of range of the gang of drug runners who are probably responsible for his disappearance, Corinna has to make sure the delicious breads, muffins, and treats that she has become known for are still fresh and ready for her eager customers. Can she take the heat?

Thank you! I had read all the earlier books in this series and didn't know there was a new book after all this time!

Corpses in Enderby is the 22nd (per SYKM) in the Inspector Littlejohn series by George Bellairs. (The webpage title says it's the 13th, and the webpage blurb says it's the 16th, but I think this is another one of those things where multiple publishers have rights to part of the series, and they each count from the start of the titles they have. Personally, I believe SYKM...)

In any case, Enderby is free right now at Kindle US and UK.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078XH5H6W
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corpses-End...dp/B078XH5H6W/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A murder in plain sight brings Scotland Yard to investigate family secrets in a sleepy village in Leicestershire.

Ned Bunn wasn’t a popular member of the community of Enderby. There were people who had wished him dead.

But when he is murdered on the doorstep of his own shop there’s a terrible outcry, the community is in shock. Littlejohn of Scotland Yard investigates the case and finds there are some startling revelations about Bunn and his family, before the murderer is finally tracked down.

Corpses in Enderby is the sixteenth title in Agora's Inspector Littlejohn Mysteries.

Between 25-30 titles by George Bellairs are on KU. Couple that with the 50% off of KU for 6 months SALE and it might be a bargain for someone.

A Grave Matter is the 3rd in the Lady Darby series by Anna Lee Huber. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Quote:
Lady Kiera Darby and Sebastian Gage investigate a macabre murderer in this historical mystery from the author of Mortal Arts.

Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her dear friend, Lady Kiera Darby is in need of a safe haven. Returning to her childhood home, Kiera hopes her beloved brother Trevor and the merriment of the Hogmanay Ball will distract her. But when a caretaker is murdered and a grave is disturbed at nearby Dryburgh Abbey, Kiera is once more thrust into the cold grasp of death.

While Kiera knows that aiding in another inquiry will only further tarnish her reputation, her knowledge of anatomy could make the difference in solving the case. But agreeing to investigate means Kiera must deal with the complicated emotions aroused in her by inquiry agent Sebastian Gage.

When Gage arrives, he reveals that the incident at the Abbey was not the first—some fiend is digging up old bones and holding them for ransom. Now Kiera and Gage must catch the grave robber and put the case to rest…before another victim winds up six feet under.

Zigzag, apa The Elgar Variation, is the first in the Henry Peckover series by Michael Kenyon. It is free right now at Kindle US and UK.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0193UND10
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zigzag-Insp...dp/B0193UND10/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Zigzag - a collection of short, sharp turns and angles leading ... who knows where? Not Chief Inspector Henry Peckover, the pride of Scotland Yard, that is for sure.

At least, not yet.

Peckover is despatched to Dublin to escort home a prisoner, who has kidnapped his young daughter and taken her over the Irish Sea.

When that prisoner is shot dead in Dublin Airport car park, Peckover thinks - with some relief - that his sojourn in Ireland is over.

It is not.

For as the mysteries surrounding Arthur Blennerhassett run on beyond his untimely death, and the authorities search desperately for his missing daughter, Peckover is asked to assist with a totally different type of investigation.

Ireland is suddenly being flooded with porn, in volumes so large the authorities seem powerless to stop it.

And Peckover, having spent time with the Vice Squad in London, is the man for the job.

Working with Dublin's Chief Superintendent O'Malley, Peckover follows the twists and turns of what seem to be two crimes: the murder of Arthur Blennerhassett, and the sudden deluge of porn upon Irish shores.

But as he follows them both, Peckover finds the crimes, and the people behind them, zig-zagging into each other with greater and greater intensity…

Helped by a young, idealistic garda, Peckover finds himself attending illegal parties, befriending members of the clergy and reading the lesson in church.

Enduring various beatings, shootings and potentially fatal experiences, he finds himself drawn into words as diverse as that of the (apparently respectable) Gael-America Genealogical Association, and a famous porn actress.

Only in fact, these worlds turn out to be closer than anybody - Peckover included - could have guessed.

Will Henry Peckover be able to stop the criminals before an explosive finale?

Free (Kindle) Villa Mimosa by Jerrard Tickell [WWII Literary Rescue Heist Thriller]

Villa Mimosa by the late Irish author Jerrard Tickell (Wikipedia), whose WWII comedy novel Appointment with Venus has been twice adapted to film, is his standalone historical literary fiction heist thriller set during WWII in occupied France, centred around a daring plan to mount a rescue operation for stranded British civilians from an area which had supposedly been safely evacuated, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press.

This was originally published in 1960 by Hodder & Stoughton, and has previously been offered free

https://www.amazon.com/Villa-Mimosa-...dp/B01DMB47W0/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Villa-Mimos...dp/B01DMB47W0/

https://www.amazon.ca/Villa-Mimosa-J...dp/B01DMB47W0/

Description
When Major Charles Addison — alias Charles Bertin, watch-maker — rode his bicycle along a poplar-lined road in occupied France in 1944, he saw like signal flags a string of feminine undergarments on a clothes line.

The area, by order of Field-Marshal Rommel, was one from which all civilians had in theory been evacuated.

The house which flew these revealing pennants was the Villa Mimosa, an establishment whose existence was to arouse the greatest interest among the Chiefs of Staff in London.

A daring and impudent plan was devised and given the appropriate name of ‘Operation Sabine’.

In his true identity, Major Addison returned dangerously to the Villa to snatch away the ladies and their regular visitors and convey them to England.

The contribution made to final victory by Lucille, Elsa, Magda, Monique and Golden Mouse was greater than any of them knew.

For, under the discreet roof of the Villa Mimosa, deadly political conspiracy had long been combined with wine, women and song.

Villa Mimosa is a breath-taking piece of literary fiction set during the epic struggle that was World War Two.
