Will the Lexend font display using Sigil?

Hi,

There was a new font called Lexend announced by Google, teaming up with Thomas Jockin on (13 Aug 19). This font is aimed at improving reading speed. The font is avaiable free at fonts.google.

I wonder if anyone has used Lexend successfully with Sigil? Ihave tried yet as I am new to Sigil, perhaps I am making Font and CSS mistakes. I also understand the manual sentence, 'testing Your Font
Not all devices will show embedded fonts. Even Sigil may not show all your embedded fonts. Its best to test on your target device to check if your fonts are displayed as you expect
.

Many thanks if anyone can help. Mike

I don't see why not, as long as you can download the OTF or TTF, you should be able to embed it into an ebook and Sigil will display it.

The issue I see is it looks to only have Regular available, which means Italics/Bold/Bold+Italics will be missing, which is very important for ebooks.

Poking around on the site, I'm not sure if it's an actual Variable Font:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_fonts
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typ.../otvaroverview

If it is, then no... support for that is non-existent on most actual ereaders.

This is fascinating. Thank you mikedownesmedia.

Too bad it only has one style, no italics/bold/bold-italics.

It is easy enough to simulate bold. But italic has to be done properly and not simulated.

Yeahbut, Wolfie, there's no good way to "simulate" bold in eBooks, really.

By simulating bold, I mean to bold the font using a font editor. Then you have your simulated bold font. Italics, need hand editing.

Sweetie, the next time you say that, you should elaborate, so that folks know that's not a "push the button" thing. :-) Unlike Word or INDD, where you can fake it with a click.
