Updated covers not appearing on FBReader

Hi,

I've been using Calibre for years and find it crucial!

Sometimes I will add a book, in .epub format, to Calibre and it will show up with a generic cover. I then use Calibre to download a more attractive cover and the new cover appears in Calibre and if I save it to disk the saved epub can be opened in an epub reader showing the new cover. However when I download it to FBReader on Android using the FBReader network connection to the Calibre server the generic cover will appear.

I would appreciate any suggestion.

For performance reasons, calibre never uses the cover inside of the ebook with the sole exception of when it imports a book. At that time it extracts a copy of the internal cover for use in the application. When you change the cover in calibre, it is only this external copy that is changed.

When exporting a book from calibre (Save to Disk or Save to Device), calibre will update the ebook with the new cover. Appearantly, the method you're using doesn't trigger this automatic update. One "fix" would be to manually force an update to the ebook file after you change the cover. I use an update metadata plugin that will update covers as well as metadata.

Thanks for your suggestion, I would be happy to invoke the update manually but I am not sure which plugin would perform the update. Could you tell me which plugin you use to update the metadata or recommend a suitable plugin.

@rozen - optional plugin not needed for epubs or azw3, just add Polish Books to a toolbar or menu, or press 'P'.
