Error cannot open database
Hi, all - I am hoping to get some help with this problem. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Calibre program. That didn't make any difference.
I'm getting error messages when I try to add new books, or update the metadata. Then I thought maybe the library file was corrupted so i restored it from File History, but still the same problem. Running 64-bit Windows version on Windows 10. Here's an example of the error message details: calibre, version 4.5.0 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>CantOpenError</b>:CantOpenError: unable to open database file calibre 4.5 [64bit] embedded-python: True is64bit: True Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '10', '10.0.18362') Python 2.7.16+ Windows: ('10', '10.0.18362', 'SP0', u'Multiprocessor Free') Interface language: None Successfully initialized third party plugins: Gather KFX-ZIP (from KFX Input) (1, 25, 0) && DeDRM (6, 6, 1) && Package KFX (from KFX Input) (1, 25, 0) && EpubMerge (2, 6, 0) && KFX metadata reader (from KFX Input) (1, 25, 0) && KFX Input (1, 25, 0) && Set KFX metadata (from KFX Output) (1, 35, 0) && KFX Output (1, 35, 0) && EpubSplit (2, 8, 0) Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\actions\choose_library.py", line 199, in mark_all_dirty File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 62, in call_func_with_lock File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1059, in mark_as_dirty File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 1052, in update_last_modified File "site-packages\calibre\db\write.py", line 544, in set_books File "site-packages\calibre\db\write.py", line 198, in one_one_in_books File "site-packages\calibre\db\backend.py", line 886, in executemany File "c:\t\t\apsw-r08j4l0g\src\cursor.c", line 236, in resetcursor CantOpenError: CantOpenError: unable to open database file |

Something on your computer is blocking calibre from accessingits database most probably an antivirus progrm. Exclude calibre and the library folder from ti and you should be fine.

Thanks, Kovid, I will try that. Although after I entered this post, I found another post with the same problem and that person said it turned out to be a Microsoft update that caused the error condition.

Looks like Microsoft has fixed the problem now. All good.
