Safe way to charge Kindle Dx?
I got a used damaged Kindle Dx, and installed Librerator so I can use it to read pdfs, djvus, etc. which I can't always read on smaller screens.
It's possible that something's happened to the usb connector, power supply, and/or battery. I have to regularly recharge the Kindle. I could probably get by recharging it every 2-3 days. But recharging it often causes it to freeze. After it freezes, I can't select the menu, or anything else, and have to hold the power button for 40-odd seconds and hope it doesn't lose my Kindle collections, screw up Launchpad, or screw up Librerator when it restarts. I should probably quit Librerator before charging it. |

I think this should go to the developers forum.
What are you using to charge it? Wall or computer? If wall, what does the adapter have on it? |

The "incorrect" reboots should not hurt. Just do not let windows (if that is what you use) do a disk check on it. It deleted most of the stuff on my kindle one time, and created a bunch of .CHK files on my kindle.
Also, for a totally depleted battery, you may need to let it charge a day or more (green LED). You can get aftermarket batteries fairly cheaply. Do not discard the old battery -- it can be repaired inexpensively as well (replace internal LiPo cell). If you are adventurous enough, check out the "kindle battery surgery" thread in the dev corner. |

I use either the computer, a Macbook, or the power strip with a Dell adaptor. It came with a broken Chinese adaptor.

Ok.
Do not charge it through a computer. Charge it via a wall charger. To make sure you are getting enough power, look at the wall charger. Find the word Output. Come back and tell us what that says so we can make sure you have enough charging power. |

P.S. found very painfully small print on the adaptor. 5V=2A.

I had it freeze again while recharging again, using the adaptor today. I had to restart, lost Librerator, and had to reinstall Librerator for the second time today. This is ridiculous.

Yes that is painfully small print. I had to put mine under a lamp to even see it. |
