Adept on iPad?

What iPad apps use Adept DRM? In particular, I've bought some EPubs from the Sony store and would like to know if I could use them on the iPad (without removing the DRM).

I know that iBooks uses it's own DRM. I had the impression that Kobo and B&N didn't use Adept on the iPad.

I saw the question asked in another thread, but didn't want to derail the other thread.

How come there is no sticky FAQ for the iPad? This seems like a good FAQ question.

Thanks.

kobo and b&n both use adept, but neither allows you to sideload books yet. the feature has been requested of kobo when they solicited for improvement ideas for their app on here a few weeks ago. they haven't told us if it would be a coming feature though.

people have reported success using txtr, the iphone app, on the ipad. it doesn't run in native resolution though.

there was an attempt at making a FAQ, unfortunately the thread got derailed by the ipad/apple critics.

Unless the Kobo iPad app is different from their apps for other platforms it doesn't do Adept at all (even for books from Kobo). Their apps download the book in a different format entirely, their "Mobile Format" (which is one of three formats you usually get access to when buying from them) so for them to add sideloading of adept restricted books would mean a whole new app I'd think.

Overdrive is supposed to be coming out with an app, but other than the press release there has been no news AFAIK.

Yes, you can with txtr. If you use FullForce on a Jailbroken iPad, it will look fine.

This information is available on the iPad wiki page.

So which is it? I think AnemicOak is correct. Shouldn't you be able to check using ADE on a PC (an account would have been created with Adobe).

scott, are you sure that B&N is using Adept on the iPad? Are they using the server DRM or the credit card DRM, both?

i read somewhere B&N was using Adept, in another thread on here. I have not made any purchases from B&N yet. hmm. I did get some free books from them, it did require I have a valid credit card registered with them. Might be the Adept CC version then.

No iPad here, but AFAIK B&N is using their password/CC DRM for anything they offer. Never heard of them using Adept (server based DRM).

The B&N DRM is a modified version of Adept. Technically any devices using that DRM will also support ADE (sony-style) DRM. Adobe will be adding B&N's variants into their codebase. In any case, you can't sideload to the B&N reader software.

Your only choice at this point is to use txtr. Sorry!

Has anyone tried manually dropping an adept book straight into say Kobo using software like iFile that gives you access to the iPads file system?

quick look into my Kobo HD.app directory, don't think you can just drop .epub files into it. while there is a Documents/ePubs directory they are organized with a .sqlite database, the file names are all renamed a long hex string and each one has an associated .key file (which seems to contain property lists). I'm guessing the database is only updated when downloading books vs. them just popping up in the directory.
