Gen3 won't boot.

I've sent a message off to Bookeen, but I thought I'd ask here too.

My Gen3 won't boot anymore.

When starting up, it shows the normal boot screen (the picture of the CyBook at the library with ten books per page showing). Then it briefly changes to the three dots and tiny Cybook image. And then it changes to an image of squares in four shades of grey in a diagonal pattern.

Just before it went wrong, it came up with another screen I'd never seen before. A small dialog box saying %TODO%. I can't remember whether this happened spontaneously, or after a restart.

I've done a reset, and I've tried removing the battery. I took out the SD Card as my first bit of troubleshooting.

Anyone any ideas?

When I tried to format the internal partition as EXT2 I got exactly these symptom so I think it is the internal partition that is broken. Connect it to USB and fix the parition and copy back the necessary files from your backup

Or re-install with the fmt-firmware.

EDIT: With internal partition I meant the one seen from a USB connection.

I accidentally deleted the system folder (and its contents) in the visible partition of my Cybook. I saw diagonal squares, checkerboard pattern, exactly the same as yours, when I disconnected the Cybook from my PC.

I had a back up on my PC and I copied the system folder back to my Cybook.

If you can access your Cybook via USB connection to your PC, you can check if the system folder is still there...

I hadn't thought to check in the System Profiler or Disk Utility, but the CyBook did show up there if booted while plugged into the USB.

A reformat of the internal partition and a restore from a recent backup (just by drag&drop) fixed things.

Thank you both very much.
