Use on-device SQL database instead of discovering files

I'm using Pocketbook Era with ebook subscription service. Majority of my ebooks are DRMd (non-standard) which means that majority of the files discovered by Calibre do not have any readable metadata.

Would it be possible for Calibre to use on-device SQL database for device sync instead of discovering files? Database file is easily accessible and contains all necessary metadata, both for the DRMd ebooks as well as those without it.

Its *possible* but actually doing it would require someone with the hardware to write a driver that does it. Also DRM typically does not prevent reading metadata apart from cover image.

In this case it is a service called Legimi and the EPUBs are using a proprietary DRM. They aren't even recognised as epubs by epub editors and there is no metadata attached. The metadata is stored in a separate SQL database which matches epub files with metadata. Later that database is translated into Pocketbook's database so the ebooks have covers, names etc.
