Author sort capitalisation changed
I'm using Calibre 2.21 (Linux 64-bit). The behaviour of the Author(s) / Author sort on the edit metadata page has changed, but I didn't notice which version the change happened.
It used to be that when editing metadata the "set author sort from author" function on a name like MacLean retained its correct capitalisation, but now it becomes Maclean. Is this a bug, or is it the intended behaviour? |

I cannot replicate that. Make sure you dont have the author name with the incorrect capitalization already in your library. If so correct it there first.

I did have the author name capitalised as Maclean for one or two books in the past, but I changed them a few calibre versions ago and now all are capitilised as MacLean.

That screenshot indicates you have Maclean in your library. Check in the Manage authors dialog (click the button to the left of the authors line).

There is only one instance of MacLean in the authors list, but it has Maclean in the author sort column. All of the books currently in the library have MacLean in their metadata.

Change it in the author sort column and you will be fine. The author to author sort functions uses the data already in the library, when it is available.

Change Author Sort to McLean, Alistair in Manage Authors and it should cascade though all the books with Author Alistair McLean
F2 on the cell will get you into edit mode. Author Sort is stored data - calibre guesses the default value. But names are 'tricky' eg Violet Bonham Carter is Bonham Carter, Violet, not Carter, Violet Bonham which is the default, To 'fix' such anomalies I always edit it in Manage Authors. BR |
