Plugin download stats
I noticed that the counters were recently reset in the statistics kept here giving the number of downloads per plugin.

I am wondering if this was a mistake or intentional and whether the cumulative counts before the reset were retained anywhere?

Those statistics were apples-and-oranges. Originally, they included downloads via Calibre, be they newly added or just an update for a new version.

Some years ago (2015?), Kovid changed the statistics to only be incremented for newly added plugins (not updates).

Obviously, if a user downloaded their original copy manually from MobileRead.com, it would never be comprehended in the statistics.

The only way to sift the apples from the oranges after 2015(?) was to take a checkpoint, and then later compare the latest statistics to arrive at a delta.

I luckily had taken a random checkpoint on 21 January 2020:

This was a bug that happened when porting the servers to python 3. It's onmy TODO list to go grab the previous numbers from the internet archive and update the db manually, just have to get around to it.
