I read ebooks now, but when I was still reading paperbacks, I used to haunt used bookstores. It wasn't uncommon for me to read thirty year old mass market paperbacks. They were still perfectly legible, yellowed pages or no.

And the stuff you are complaining about is what made them so affordable.
