Calibre Not Updating

I have been using Calibre for many years - thank you for an amazing program

Recently I have been having a problem updating the program

I download and install the latest version but when I re-open Calibre it still says version 3.18

I have completely uninstalled the program and started with a fresh install (3.27.1) but it still tells me it is version 3.18 and gives me a link to update.

I am running Windows 10 v.1803

Any ideas?

Have you ever set up the option to run from source? If so that takes precedence and you would either need to update the source or stop running from source.

The only other way to explain your symptoms is that you have two different versions of Calibre installed to different locations and you are launching the wrong one.

I definitely only have one installation.

Excuse my ignorance but how do I check the 'running from source' option.

If you haven't explicitly downloaded the calibre source code, you can discount the idea about 'running from source' being your problem.

I'd look at whether either version is the portable calibre, or whether you've managed to install both 32-bit and 64-bit calibre.

Go to Control Panel->Programs and Features, click the Name column header to sort the list, and look for something like this :-
