Do you have problems holding books open? Well, I have a solution for you...
Do you know someone who prefers paper books but had to change to ebooks due to problems keeping the page open, there is now a solution for your problems. The Thumb Thing
You can get one in a colorful plastic version or a luxurious walnut style or even a combination thumb thing bookmark! Which one is right for YOU? I have never heard of this before but it has been available since at least 2006 according to the place I saw it (Cool Tools). Wow. I'm laughing about this to an extent but I do see how it could help in some situations. Certainly not enough for me to ever bother but maybe someone has a physical issue where it would help. Does anyone have any experience with these? Does it help? It seems like it would get in the way when actually turning the page and I can't imagine going back to paper with or without one of these things at this point. It wouldn't help me enough (still too hard to read and turn pages on a large book, one handed while standing in a crowded train). Last edited by Dazrin; 01-13-2018 at 12:33 PM. |

Some of the thicker books have a pretty strong tendency to close. I can see that over time, holding the book open with only your thumb/hand centered in the fold, would build up such muscle strength that you'd look like a fiddler crab.

You can't even specify a color; how are you going to coordinate with the book jacket, much less your outfit?
And the walnut one, pfui! You might as well buy a cheap ereader from Woot. |

The solution already exists. They are called ereaders, smartphones and tablets! LOL!

Looks like it would be really uncomfortable. For someone like me, with some arthritis in my hands and thumb joint, this would solve one problem and create another. My thumb joint hurts just thinking about it.

Yeah!?
Well?! Uh?! How do I read this book, which I own? Huh!? Yeah?! Well?! Actually, this is a great book. Just shuffle the pages for a new plot, new developments, new entanglements, new ideas, and a new post-modern delight. |

Well, that's it then. The ebook is doomed.

And here's a convenient device I found online that allows you to carry a small library with you wherever you go.
