Book metadata download handling issues

Hi,

Im not sure whether the following remarks are issues on my or Calibre's end, so let me voice them. Both of them have raised during plugin development:

First, are there any rules on how to assign a 10-digit ISBN code (like 9638641622) to the Metadata, since when i call clean_downloaded_metadata, it just gets removed?

Second, are there any reason behind that Metadata results, that do not have an ISBN set, are not presented in the list to choose from?

You ISBN has to be valid or it will be ignored. And if there are results with an ISBN they will be used and results without an isbn in the same set will be discarded.

So you are implying that if any plugin returns even one result with an ISBN set, all other results are just ignored since we couldnt find a correct ISBN, even if in there might actually be the one we are looking for? That just doesnt sound right from my point of view.

Feel free to come up with a better algorithm for trying to find the most relevant result from a disparate set of sources over which you have no control with differing levels of quality for a disparate user base with differing ideas of what constitutes the best match.

I'll watch the results with interest.

Not to get on anyone's nerves but would you consider to implement, at least as an option to list all results when downloading metadata at least from Google Books? Sure there would be a lot of irrelevant results, but many books have significantly different editions without an isbn, even different translations. It would be really useful for some people.
