Want the "On Device" column to be just wide enough to see the green circled checkmark
How can I keep the "On Device" column just wide enough to see the green circled checkmark? It always expands to be wide enough to see the words "On Device", but that's a waste of space. Or would it help to change the column heading from "On Device" to an emoji/icon of a device? (If so, how can I use an emoji/icon/png/jpg in a column header?

I've never used it so I don't know what it does but in the Preferences -> Look & feel is the tab Column icons at the far right.

If you don't care about sorting and just want the checkmark to appear, try this column icon rule (Preferences > Look & Feel > Column icon > Add rule):
Set the icon with text of the column: Title to [image here*] Only if the following conditions are all satisfied: If the On device column is false. *If you want a checkmark, you can find one in <Calibre installation folder>\app\resources\images\ok.png. There's also some other icons in there that might work for your purposes. Last edited by ownedbycats; 08-05-2020 at 01:40 PM. |

The On Device column is strange. I tried using View Manager to save its width a few times but it never stuck.

I tried to shrink On Device once but I still have several devices with external uSD cards so I realized I needed the Main/Card A indicator and dropped the project. At that time, I played with a custom column and moved the On Device to the far left of the columns but was never happy with the results.

Maybe if there's a way we can rename "On Device" to one letter (for example, "D"), then it won't expand so much?

I did make an enhancement request a while back to be able to rename default columns, but Kovid didn't think it was worth the effort.

Are you going to be forking Calibre just for one column? Are you going to keep up with all the enhancements/changes to Calibre? And when the Python 3 version comes out, you'll have to start over. Is it really worth it? IMO, it is not worth the hassle.
